The Sky's The Limit - Dr. Wayne W. DyerTake Charge of Your Life and Reach Your Maximum Potential
Dr. Wayne Dyer teaches us simply how to be a no-limit person. The Sky's The Limit helps others get in touch with their potential without worrying about everyone else.
It’s possible to have peace and excitement at the same time and Dr. W. Wayne Dyer doesn’t think it takes years of pouring your heart out to a therapist about your past to do it. Here are some ways that are touched on in The Sky’s The Limit, by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, 1980, publisher Simon & Schuster, ISBN-10: 0671249894, on how to be a no-limit person. Be ChildlikeTo be childlike is not meant in the way that we become completely irresponsible. It does mean to let loose and have fun. Being spontaneous is exciting and every minute of the day doesn’t need to be planned. In fact, constantly planning and striving towards the future is bound to bring disappointment because it becomes impossible to enjoy the present. CopingJust going with the flow and running with the pack isn’t always fulfilling either. When people take a chance, do something different and strike out on their own, they’re more fulfilled. It’s not necessary to consult someone for advice or approval on every decision being considered. It’s tempting to merely cope and/or settle because that’s more likely to please people. Often when people do things differently, it makes others nervous because they don’t like changes. Authoritarian ThinkingAuthoritarians tend to be rigid and intolerant. They like to control and dominate others. Ironically by these sorts of behaviors they also conform and submit to what they think society wants. For example authoritarians think in black and white with their dichotomous thinking, so encourage stereotypes. This ends up putting people into neat categories, which discourages growth and encourages division. When people view the world in an "us against them" way, it’s bound to cause strife. Authoritarians usually don’t have much patience for children either. They may expect children to act like little adults or they get upset when they’re too loud, messy or have too much fun. Everyone can probably think of a neighbor who screams out of his or her window in the middle of the day telling kids to shut up. Holistic ThinkingTo transcend authoritarian thinking, people can acknowledge it’s possible to change their attitude and be at peace. When society is seen as a unit or team that we’re all a part of, we’re more likely to accept and celebrate each other’s differences. Judgments and criticisms becomes a waste of time because the focus switches to how we can help each other. Since the concern is no longer about changing others, it becomes possible to see what we have in common.
Sense of PurposeIf people don’t feel like they’re making a difference in the world they may feel like something is missing. This can lead to depression so it’s important to pursue special talents, strengths and hobbies that individuals enjoy. It’s not easy to take risks and go against the grain, especially if there’s no support for decisions from others. Conforming often only ends up pleasing everyone else, so sometimes it’s best to shake those external voices. Then it becomes possible to focus on personal desires. That’s as long as they’re not illegal, nobody’s getting hurt and the childlike behavior isn’t used as an excuse to be irresponsible. Dr. Wayne W. DyerDr. Wayne W.
